C alendar Wednesday, July 1 Summer Jewelry Camp J U LY / A U G U S T 2 0 0 9 of Events Food for Thought Campers, ages 8 to 14 can explore the world of beading by creating different projects each day and learn about jewelry styles, color palettes, fashion designs and materials from different cultures, periods and fashions that will inspire their own jewelry collection. Pinocchio This exhibit offers a tasty visual experience of Colonial proportions. Discover what a typical Early American meal consisted of and how it was made. Learn about the different foods eaten at the time and imagine yourself being the one who had to prepare the different meals of the day using their same techniques and recipes. Runs through 2009. Out of the Closet: An Art Collection Revealed Cross Estate Garden Volunteers Those who love to garden or have more to learn can join Cross Estate Garden volunteers in the formal and native gardens. Horticulturists Carolyn Lydon and Marta McDowell give tips for easy gardening and plant choices. Volunteers also assemble treats for a break before finishing. Wednesdays, 9am-noon, Cross Estate Gardens, 61 Jockey Hollow Rd., Bernardsville. 973-376-0348. The summer program offers children the opportunity to experiment with a variety of media in a fun and supportive environment. Children are encouraged to use their imagination freely. Campers create four art projects per week. The projects are inspired by a different master artist and include painting, drawing, mixed-media collage, sculpture, printmaking, and paper mache. Linedrives & Lipstick: The Untold Story of Women's Baseball Marooned on a mysterious island full of magical creatures, the magus Prospero prepares to wreak havoc on those who have wronged him, only to learn the greater value of compassion and forgiveness. This fun, mystical masterpiece is a perfect play for families and people of all ages to experience Shakespeare under the stars. Runs through August 2. Greek Theatre, 2 Convent Rd., Morris. 973-408-5600. The Tempest This exhibit demonstrates that women were, indeed, in a league of their own as far as baseball was concerned. Documenting the story of women's baseball from its beginnings at Vassar College in 1866 into the 20th century, the exhibit showcases many of the pioneering players as they barnstormed across the country from one game to the next.
