At Your Service By Matt Potter, photo by Dan Epstein Owner Paul Barber Aldayna Maintenance to the Rescue! tone surfaces are the dream of many a homeowner—and for good reason. A natural stone floor, granite countertop or marble shower looks great, inspires pride, and adds value to the home. In addition, natural stone is maintenance-free and will look just as good in 10 years' time as it does today. Right? Not necessarily. Although rock is durable, it still stains, breaks, and discolors, especially in high-traffic areas. at is where the stone-restoration specialists at Aldayna Maintenance come in. For 35 years, Verona-based Aldayna has been restoring marble, granite, and tile for homes and offices not only in New Jersey, but throughout the Metropolitan area as well. Why has Aldayna Maintenance's reputation and business spread so far? It answers a homeowner's dream: "We restore all marble surfaces to their original color and vibrancy," explains owner Paul Barber. By "restoring," Barber includes maintenance and cleaning of surfaces from marble and granite countertops to floors, walls, showers, vanities, bars, and those hardto-clean porous surfaces in the kitchen and bathroom. Once a homeowner or business calls Barber, concerned that a natural stone surface has lost its original luster, Aldayna experts arrive to examine the problem and offer a free estimate of the necessary work. Sometimes, a simple polish is all that is needed to revitalize a surface. On other occasions, a more thorough approach is required. Luster Fading from Your Natural Stone? S "We evaluate the situation and make a recommendation," says Barber. "Our restoration services include polishing, sealing, and honing all types of marble countertops, flooring, and showers." His technicians, he stresses, are "experts in all phases of restoration and maintenance." Aldayna also offers grouting services to remove mold, mildew, and other microscopic micro-organisms that grow in tile grout—substances that can be health hazards. "Ceramic and porcelain tile are some of the most durable surfaces in your house," notes Barber. "However, the porous grout lines that may have been improperly sealed, or in some cases not even sealed at all, are like open sponges for dirty mop water and anything else that might spill on the floor." To remedy the problem, Aldayna replaces the grout and uses a high quality permanent color sealant that not only matches the grout's color, but also resists stains, water, and mildew for years to come. As for discoloration, a common problem, this sealant provides a permanent solution—one that Barber attests "works great." Aldayna also provides janitorial services to offices, banks, and factories. " e janitorial cleaning crew works its magic," Barber says, "using the same cleaning philosophy we use to restore marble. ey will work their cleaning magic to thoroughly clean your office."
