When, years later, the man's son arrived at the same store to purchase a ring for his own engagement, the same owners were there to help him. e jewelry store? George Press Fine Jewelers, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year—and honoring its history with an Anniversary Celebration Sale. e celebration, to be held from Nov. 27 through Dec. 5, will provide a variety of special offers all week long, including a drawing to win a Serena Garbo Bertolucci watch (log on to GeorgePress.com to enter). e decadesold success of the store can be accredited to the passion and dedication of its owner, George Press, who painstakingly makes his jewelry by hand. "He always feels most comfortable when he is at the bench," says his wife, Cheryl Press, marketing manager for the store. Attendees can enjoy champagne cocktails and appetizers while previewing women's clothing and sportswear from Mendham businesses such as Windswept, Para L'Elle, Courtside, and Ecco Life. Carla Fabrizi will offer her makeup services for the show, and handmade jewelry and accessories from Red Tops and Beryl's Belts will accompany the fashions. All participating Mendham stores will also be selling their merchandise at the event, including styles from Susana Monaco, Trina Turk, Skirtin' Around, and Sara Campbell. "We wanted to do something new and different for the community," says Deborah Stryker, chairwoman of the Friends of Mendham Borough Library. P RUNWAY CHIC Somerset Honors Disability Advocates he Somerset County Office for the Disabled has honored both e Friends of Matheny of Peapack and Sue van Aken of Franklin Township's Parks and Recreation Dept. with the its 2009 Disability Advocate Awards. " e awards recognize people that go beyond their daily duties to make things better for the disabled," says Mark Malone of Somerset's Office for the Disabled. e Friends of Matheny provides support for students, patients, and staff at the Matheny Medical and Educational Center. e group donates refreshments and decorations for special events and runs a secondhand shop to raise funds for meals and transportation. Among Sue van Aken's contributions are Adventure Camp—a summer program that integrates special-needs children with public school children—and P.L.A.Y.— a sports program for special-needs preschoolers.
