In the Marketplace

wIn wIn the Marketplace By Scott Krady, Photo by Dan Epstein Trend Motors: Motors: RUNNING SMOOTHLY ON LOYALTY, CUSTOMER SERVICE—AND VOLKSWAGENS From the 60s Beetles to today's Jettas and convertibles, VWs have changed over the years. But at Trend Motors, one thing never changes: customer service that keeps buyers coming back again and again... and again. hen hen Trend Motors opened in 1965, the VW Transporter—better known as the "Bus"— Transporter—better symbolized the 60s hippie movement, while symbolized the Beetle was the definitive sports car. Today, a retroBeetle ("Bug") is again popular, while a "Bus" sighting is a rarity, save for an old car show. Yet while styles and times have changed, Trend Motors—a family-operated company begun by the Greene family—remains a thriving business. Based in Rockaway, it still sells a full line of Volkswagens, cars it has sold for four-and-a-half decades. "We opened when Volkswagen was the only small car in the market," says Adam Greene, owner and president. "Everyone in Morris County and North Jersey got to know us, because we always take care of customers." And those customers remember Trend Motors when it's time to buy or service a car. "We see the same people we've built relationships with over the years," Greene says. "It's a wonderful feeling." An authorized dealer for sales, service and parts, Trend Motors carries and sells more VWs than any other dealer in the state. Besides new and pre-owned Volkswagens, it carries pick-up trucks and SUVs of other makes at its two locations. Greene says Trend Motors' business is based on people—and discounts. Its website lists each month's special deals. But money isn't the only reason Trend customers return again and again. "We treat cusAdam Greene, owner of Trend Motors W tomers tomers the way we would want to be treated ourselves," says Green, "with respect and honesty." Many Trend employees are veterans as well; one service department employee has worked for Trend since 1979. Greene himself has worked at Trend Motors since 1985. In the early 1990s, he purchased the dealership from his father. at family environment has sparked word-ofmouth sales—with friends, family and loyal customers referring new people to Trend. In 2009, Trend Motors sold nearly a thousand new Volkswagens. Its line includes old favorites such as the Jetta, as well as the new Golf, a new minivan called the Routan, the Touareg (an SUV), the convertible Eos, and the new, Mercedes-like CC. If Trend's sales truly are a trend, that's good news—because Greene says that business is on the rebound. Sales are rising, and repairs and service departments are especially busy. Trend has also doubled the size of its showroom and shop, and built a customer lounge with a coffee bar, refreshments, wireless Internet, and a 52-inch television. " e bottom line is that we are all about our customers," Greene stresses. "We stand behind them."  Trend Motor Volkswagen 221 Route 46, Rockaway • 973-625-0100 www.trendmotorsvw.com February 2010 VicinityMagazine.com 31
