C alendar FEBRUARY 2010 of Events Monday, February 1 Discussion Course: Voluntary Simplicity Schiff Nature Preserve and the local Community Green organization have teamed up to sponsor the Northwest Earth Institute's Voluntary Simplicity discussion course. The goals for the program are to understand the meaning of voluntary simplicity, to explore the material and psychological distractions that prevent us from caring for the earth, to acknowledge the connection between our lifestyle choices and the condition of the earth. Runs every Monday, through March 1st. 7-8:30pm, Schiff Natural Lands Trust, 339 Pleasant Valley Rd., Mendham. Bring your 1st to 3rd grader over to the Cora Hartshorn Arboretum to let them display their artistic talent. The first week involves decoratinga wooden bird house that can be taken home to hang outside, and the second week involves using brushes, straws, sponges and whatever to create prints, cards or frameable pictures. One-Day Nature Program On Saturday, February 6, come to the Mayo Center for the Performing Arts in Morristown to experience this acrobatic extravaganza. Call 973-467-0838 or visit www.summitareaymca.org for more information. 24th International Juried Show This renowned and highly acclaimed annual juried exhibition draws many entrants from around the world, whose work reflects every art medium. This year, the Art Center received approximately 2,000 entries, representing the mediums of painting, drawing, ceramics, watercolor, pastels, and more. 139 works were accepted into the show. The Spirit of Thomas Nast: His Life and Legacy Pre- Groundhog Day Celebration The exhibit features the museum's pair of rarely seen 8×12 foot grand caricaturamas. This series of thirty-three panels featured satiric depictions of pivotal events in American history. There are only eight panels known to still exist; this exhibit is featuring two of them. Objects, photographs, and documents from Nast's life, house and family will accompany the images. The exhibit is open through February. Macculloch Hall, 45 Macculloch Ave., Morristown. 973-538-2404. StrollerFit-Exercise This unique program offers stay-at-home moms a way to take care of themselves through fitness with their baby.
